Lending An Ear To Unity: Rock The Bells Makes The World Better

It was difficult to detour festival revelers from ecstasy at this year's Rock The Bells event. There was enough great music to incite that healthy type of riot. The event left no room for pounding sun-rays, overpriced beverages, and a security team that looked more like they were out to bludgeon people instead of protecting them, to negate one love for concert-goers. As one reveler shouted while 200 or so of us bombarded the lower Orchestra, "power in numbers never fails". I smiled at her and met with my friends, eventually groovin' only feet from some of the greatest entertainers in the biz.

There was something sincerely unique that separated this festival from others. To the obvious, you would assume that a hip-hop-ian overload would suffice as an explanation. Though a major factor was definitely the legendary list of artists participating, the true sensation was the promotion: hip-hop lives and its because of you. Translation: we're a family.

It's a realm that most Rock festivals never transcend. I'm just as excited when I see a good rock show, but the ambiance doesn't compare. There's a sense of unity that persists at a Hip-Hop event. Call it a theme, but I prefer to deliver the sentiment as a status of nature, rather than simply a billboard motif. There really does seem to be a sense that something special is being shared. And with that, the venue resounded with sincere love for a culture, a music, and a vision: Represent-Respect-Recognize. Just roll it off the tongue.
