Letter to Ronaldo: The Phenomenon

Note: I clearly don't intend to send this to Ronaldo, but decided that an open "letter" would be the only appropriate way to critique the latest developments surrounding this player.

Ronaldo,

To commence, I send you my sincerest condolensces. Not for a failed World Cup appearance, but for the grief, that a man of your athletic stature and legacy, has had to endure throughout the year.

In a state of the most dire and shameful expressions of fickleness, futbol afficionados have condemned you to be housed in solitary confinement. A place designated only for sport's cheats. A place devoted to those that play with no heart, with no soul, and with no passion. A place reserved for the undignified, the ungrateful, and the egotistical.

Today, I denounce any form of spite towards you. In accordance with all futbol afficionados that cherish the sport; that cherish magic and fortune; that acknowledge when they've been in the midst of greatness; I salute you Ronaldo.

Though your country will be without a trophy this year, you've left all passionate fans with one of the most courageous performances to date. With all the ridicule, criticism, and defeat, you managed to silence the world with a record that not even futbol's "Rey" could deny as great. You are a treasure, a delight, a manifestation of excellence and greatness; and for that I am grateful to say I witnessed "the Phenomenon" in my lifetime.
